Rapidshare taps into India via VSNL

with 2 comments

Looks like the traffic from India has started to make a significant impact on content distributors. After Akamai, who has servers at VSNL and Sify and POPs in India, and WordPress.com, who have been using Netli’s Indian servers, Rapidshare has joined their ranks as the latest player to use hosting in India to serve Indian traffic. Users attempting to download files from Rapidshare now have a new server, dl30vsnl.rapidshare.com, to play with and I am assuming that users who are either on MTNL or Tata Indicom should see considerably faster speeds because of this. Strangely, Limelight Networks, who serve Youtube’s Flash Video Content, does not have an Indian presence yet, which begs the slightly related question if Google would ditch Limelight at some point, now that Youtube is in their bag.
