The Beeb’s streaming woes

BBC To Stream News 24 Online: Rafat Ali

The killer part, though, comes in the second paragraph of the post:

However, the BBC does not own the online rights to some of the sports
footage in its news, and it in discussions to resolve the issue. If
unsuccesful, the sporting action would be edited out of the online
broadcast.

We have been experiencing the same issues for a while here. Some agencies like SNTV (the sports chaps) either ask for a whole lot of money for the web rights or flat out refuse to provide them, leaving us with terrible choices, to either stream everything or stream nothing at all.

It would be interesting to see what the Beeb does by means of ‘editing’ a live stream. The only way it can be done is to pull another signal from the MCR, but it would be meaningless unless someone tags the footage as not to be aired online. I wonder how will they do that.
